The Jigawa State Governor, Malam Umar Namadi has assured the state workers of his administration’s plan to implement the new minimum wage as soon as the Federal Government signs it into law.
Represented by his Deputy, Aminu Usman at the event to mark the Workers Day, the governor congratulated the workers for the day.
He said, “the present administration under the leadership of Governor Umar Namadi, accords greater priority to the welfare of workers and is fully aware of the present hardship the workers are experiencing due to the higher cost of living”
“This administration will remain committed to providing incentives and palliative measures to cushion the effect of economic challenges”
He assured of the state government’s commitment to ensure prompt payment of salaries and pensions as and when due.
“I would also like to use this medium to assure you that we are patiently waiting for the Federal Government to sign the new minimum wage into law, we are ready to convey fruitful negotiation with NLC to arrive at an affordable and sustainable new salary and wages structure without any delay”
Earlier the NLC Chairman, Comrade Sanusi Alhassan commended the present administration and called for the massive recruitment, training and retraining of the existing workforce as well as the review of the duty allowance to reflect current economic realities.
“We equally want to request the state government to implement the upward review of the CONHESS and CONPCASS salary structure with 25% and 35% respectively” the NLC chairman urged.
