Marco Silva has defended Erik ten Hag after the Manchester United manager slammed Fulham for their TikTok video which mocked Bruno Fernandes.

Ten Hag has demanded an apology from Fulham for their clip on TikTok which showed Fernandes feigning injury during United’s 2-1 defeat at Old Trafford last weekend alongside the caption, ‘So glad he’s ok’.

Silva, however, insists he would also back one of his Fulham players and has praised Fernandes for the impact he has made during his time at United.

When asked about Fulham’s TikTok video about Fernandes, Silva said on Friday: ‘I’m aware of it. I haven’t seen it, I’m not a big fan of social media.

‘It was a reaction from Ten Hag. When a manager defends a player, I think it’s a normal situation. If it’s one of our players I’m going to defend them until the last.

‘He said he hadn’t seen it, he was responding to a question, I haven’t heard the question, I don’t know how the journalist put the question to the manager in that moment. If you said that to me now that a club put something I’m going to defend my player, even if I haven’t seen it.

‘Let’s talk about Bruno as well, he’s the captain of Man United, a player I know really well, a top player and a top professional, you are not a Man United captain if you don’t have all the package to be in the same box to be a Man United captain and to be such an important player, this is important to say.

‘Of course, Ten Hag is going to defend his player, I can understand that.

‘All the other noise comes because it’s Man United. Probably if it was Marco Silva reacting, it would be finished in 10 seconds. It is what it is.

‘The second question for this press conference comes about one TikTok, I would prefer, sorry to tell you, one that comes about our performance, about a win for the club that was the third time [in Premier League history], but you are here talking about TikTok, it’s nice.’
