Marcel Sabitzer’s agent has hinted he would be keen to remain at Manchester United beyond his loan spell and feels revitalised after leaving Bayern Munich.

The 28-year-old moved to Old Trafford on deadline day as short-term cover for Christian Eriksen, who is likely to be sidelined until the start of April at the earliest.

Sabitzer has slotted straight in at United, starting the last three Premier League matches against Leeds – twice – and Leicester City.

The Austrian has impressed with his composure on the ball and tenacity and work rate off it, and United’s hierarchy are believed to be considering turning his loan move into a permanent stay.

Bayern are only looking to recoup around €15million (£13m) if they sell the midfielder in the summer, which feels like a bargain considering his performances for United so far.

Now Sabitzer’s agent, Roger Wittmann, has issued an update on the Austrian’s future and has suggested he would be keen to extend his stay and is loving life at Old Trafford.

‘Marcel is a top player. It doesn’t surprise me at all that he’s performing so well so quickly,’ Wittmann told German outlet SPORT1.

‘If you have as much experience as Marcel has, whether in the Champions League or with over 60 international appearances, it doesn’t take long to find your way around a club and a league like this.

‘He loves the English hardness! It was clear from the start that the Premier League was a great fit for him.

‘He’s an aggressive player, he does exactly what he likes to do there. And what’s needed there.’

Asked about whether Sabitzer might remain at United beyond this summer, Wittmann added: ‘At Manchester United we are seeing the Marcel from Leipzig again.

‘I’m very happy for him. What’s next in the summer? We’ll see when the time comes.’

Manager Erik ten Hag is believed to have been offered as many as 10 different midfielders on deadline day when Eriksen’s injury was revealed but Sabitzer was always his number one choice, having tracked the player since he was at RB Leipzig.
