Many killed as unknown gunmen attack Taraba communities


Unknown gunmen have killed several persons in Binnari and Jab Jab villages in Karim Lamido Local Government Council of Taraba State in separate attacks.

Newspot learnt that the development has heightened tension in the areas as some residents were confirmed to have deserted the communities.

The rampaging gunmen, it was gathered upon arriving the communities started shooting sporadically and killed several persons, including three housewives.

It was furthered gathered that the attacks were in retaliation of the recent killing of some of the gang members of the unknown gunmen by vigilante group in the areas.

Some residents from the affected communities who spoke with our correspondent, said the attackers succeeded due to the absence of security operatives in the two affected communities.
The source said, “As I speak to you, there are no policemen or soldiers in Binnari but we are told that soldiers are on their way to the area.”

Also confirming the attacks, the council chairman, Hamidu Makus, however, said he could ascertain the exact number of casualties, but agreed that “there were attacks in some of the communities.”
He added security operatives have already been drafted to the areas.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the state command, Abdullahi Usman, also agreed that security operatives have been drafted to the communities.
