Proverbs 24:20 -21 says : “Homes are built on the foundation of wisdom and understanding. Where there is knowledge the rooms are furnished with valuable beautiful things. Being wise is better than being strong. Yes knowledge is most important than strength”

Ecclesiastes 3:1 says, ” A good reputation is better than expensive perfumes, and the day you die is better than the day you’re born”

The title of this piece, “Manner Maketh A Man” refers to my 230-page-book published in 2006 which highlights the importance of personal and corporate character encompasing, passion, integrity vision, humility , morality, hardwork, courage, honesty, consideration for others starting from spouse, less privileged ones and family members, diplomacy, drive and wisdom, both in private and public life, all which can not be whittled down, willed away or shunted aside.

Other personal critical scripting is reputation.
When reputation is lost, everything is lost. The British Prime Minister (1940 – 1955), Churchill said “Leadership is not primarily a matter of intellect, it is the moral quality and ultimately question of character that dominate.”

Samson, an Isrealite, strong, great warrior, and child of God tore lion apart and won victories over Philistines. He liked to dine with devil, went after harlots, worldly things and slept spritually in the lap of her wife Delilah – who betrayed him to the hands of his enemies. He lost consciousness as co-heir with God, then lost his strength and died a shameful death due to carelessness and moral failure.

His opposite counterpart, Joseph was an epitome of integrity, self-discipline and a man of humble disposition. His brothers were tormented by the devil to send him to the road to perdition. He had providence smiled on him as he became second-in-command, Prime Minister of Egypt, the largest empire on earth, yet a stranger in foreign land, moved from pit to palace, from prison to the throne, the place of solace for his hungry, cruel and envious Israelite brothers. He stood tall in the face of adversity and refused to play a dirty outturn on his master, Portiphar (Genesis 39:8-10.)

Other irresistible Biblical characters include Moses, Jesus Christ, Stephen, John the Baptist, Paul the apostle and others.

Apart from those Biblical figures, there are contemporary leaders who have demonstrated amazing charm and passed test of integrity. While others have their hands stained.

Now, we could see that character or reputation is who you really are. It does not connote wealth, power or money. A poor man can be a stand-out figure on character chart. Thus, Ecclesiastes (10 : 7) says “I have seen servants upon horses, and princess walking upon the earth.”

Today, senior citizens, elders, even kings are rubbished by our youths and in some cases are regarded as wizards andecause of their insistence on putting them on the side of decency. Many social and religious groups that repre conscience of the society are like a stab in their hearts and sometimes harassed by government authorities.

Dr Chief Kunle Bamisaye, a Chartered. Secretary and Administrator in his endorsement for “Manner Maketh A Man;” wrote “How much the world would change for better if the emphasis is on “Manner”and not materialism.

May the Citizens of God’s kingdom sustain successful combat against the kingdom of devil.
