Manchester United star Paul Pogba has picked up a suspected thigh injury while on international duty with France and pulled out of the world champions’ latest training session.

Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard was the only other outfield player present at France’s lowkey session held under the floodlights at their Clairefontaine training camp.

Most other members of France’s star-studded 23-man squad are due to arrive later this evening, with Didier Deschamps’ men preparing to continue their qualifying campaign for Qatar 2022.

A video shared by RMC Sport show Pogba taking a shot at goal and screaming in agony before clutching his right thigh.

The ex-Juventus midfielder, United’s club-record signing, appeared in some discomfort as he hobbled off the team’s training pitches accompanied by physio Franck Le Gall.

Deschamps’ men play host to Kazakhstan at the Parc des Prince on Saturday night before travelling to Helsinki to take on Finland next Tuesday.

Les Bleus remain unbeaten in Group D and hold a three-point lead over second-placed Ukraine ahead of the double-header.

Pogba’s injury came just hours after his United team-mate, Marcus Rashford, withdrew from Gareth Southgate’s squad for England’s World Cup qualifiers versus Albania and San Marino.

Rashford has been feeling unwell and the Three Lions agreed it would be beneficial to let the forward work on his fitness back at United rather than risking a further setback.

Southampton captain James Ward-Prowse has also been ruled out of England’s double-header due to an illness.

Arsenal midfielder Emile Smith Rowe has been called up for the first time in place of the pair and could make his senior debut against Albania this weekend.

It remains to be seen whether Mason Mount and Luke Shaw can return to full match fitness in order to play a part at Wembley.

Mount’s arrival at St, George’s Park has been delayed due to recent dental surgery, while Shaw is having to follow concussion protocol back at United after a collision with Rodri in the Manchester derby.
