The Red Devils confirmed on Sunday that Harry Maguire is out for three weeks, leaving Jonny Evans as the squad’s only fit and recognised centre-half.
Casemiro is likely to partner the Northern Irishman at Selhurst Park, but if Evans is not yet match fit Scott McTominay could drop into defence.
But United’s squad is already injury-ravaged, with Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes also set to miss out.
Those two have been added to absentees like Luke Shaw, Lisandro Martinez, Victor Lindelof, Raphael Varane, Tyrell Malacia and Anthony Martial.
United have had to look to their academy in recent weeks to fill the bench.
And Collyer, 20, is set to be the next academy graduate to get a taste of the first team.
The midfielder flew down from Manchester into London with the rest of the squad on Monday.
He’s likely to take a place on the bench against the Eagles.
United are 8th in the table following wins for Newcastle and Chelsea at the weekend.
A win in south-west London would take United back ahead their rivals and into sixth.
