Victor Lindelof has come in for heavy criticism from Dutch legend Ruud Gullit for his role in Manchester United’s humiliating 4-0 defeat to Brighton.
The Red Devils collapsed to an embarrassing loss on the south coast, conceding four or more goals for the sixth time this season.
The defeat means United will end the season with their lowest ever tally in the Premier League era and
United’s miserable day started with Moisés Caicedo opening the scoring for Brighton, which set the Seagulls on their way to a resounding win.
But highlights showed the shot could have easily been blocked and that Lindelof – who was playing instead of skipper Harry Maguire – attempted to stop the shot with his hands behind his back and with his legs bizarrely spaced out.
And former Chelsea boss Gullit says it’s one of the strangest things he’s ever seen on a football pitch.
‘Let’s look at the way Lindelof tried to block that shot, I have honestly never seen this before,’ said Gullit.
‘Look at him, he spreads his legs wide open. What’s he trying to do?
‘He’s like: “I’m making things easier for you, go for it!”. Terrible.. just terrible.’
United’s defeat means the club could miss out on Europa League football.
The Red Devils are three points ahead of West Ham but the Hammers have a game in hand and a superior goal difference.
Should the win their final two matches, they will take sixth spot from Ralf Rangnick’s side.
