Wilfried Zaha was delighted with a ‘dream come true’ on a ‘great night’ as he scored against former club Manchester United in a Champions League win for Galatasaray at Old Trafford.

In a remarkable game, the Turkish side twice came from behind to win 3-2 and pile the pressure on the Red Devils as they start their campaign with two defeats, sitting bottom of Group A.

Zaha, who had an unsuccessful spell with United from 2013-15 moved to Galatasaray from Crystal Palace over the summer and scored their first goal at Old Trafford on Tuesday.

He was desperate to join a Champions League club when leaving Selhurst Park and is loving playing at the highest level of European football.

‘Dream come true really,’ he told TNT Sports after the match. ‘Happy to be playing in this competition and scoring goals as well. Great night for me.

‘It literally is [everything I dreamed of]. It’s not even just the game. The build-up, when we’re driving her on the coach we were playing the Champions League music, the stars on the balls, I’ve finally made it to here.

‘There’s nothing like it. It’s literally playing between the best and a chance to showcase my talent between the best. I feel like that’s where it’s decided whether you’re good or not. Days like today are what it’s all about.’

The 30-year-old has suffered an injury since moving to Turkey and only played in four league games so far, but he ahs thanked Galatasaray fans for understanding the situation and supporting him nonetheless.

‘Obviously they were thinking, “what is going on with Zaha?” They must have been thinking, “is he injury prone now?” But the main thing is they kept the trust,’ he said.

‘I kept getting messages on social media saying they trust me. It’s just love really, to show they were willing to give me time because they know what I can bring to the team. If a club shows me love, on the pitch I’m going to show it back with every action.’
