Jamie Carragher has told Arsenal fans that Manchester United will ‘always be a bigger club’ than them after the Liverpool legend was accused of not giving the Gunners enough credit.

Arsenal started the season with three consecutive defeats against Brentford, Chelsea and Manchester City.

However, the Gunners have since bounced back to go on a four-match unbeaten streak that has lifted them up to 11th in the table.

Speaking on Sky Sports’ Overlap show, Carragher explained what the north London club need to do in the coming years in order to make themselves title challengers again.

‘You look at the team’s challenging for the league now and that’s where Arsenal are trying to get to, you need world class players,’ he said.

‘They have two or three young players, Smith Rowe, Saka and Odegaard – they’re not world class but they have the potential to be special.

‘Buy they won’t all get there, they won’t all get to the level that’s needed to challenge for the title, so they’ll need to keep spending in the next three of four transfer windows.’

The former centre-back was then confronted by Arsenal fan Pippa Monique, who claimed that he never gives Arteta’s team the credit she thinks they deserve.

’Is that why you think Arsenal don’t get enough credit because there is not enough big names in the team, not enough star-studded names that United and City have?’ she said.

Carragher quickly replied: ‘Why are you obsessed about Arsenal not getting enough credit, what is it you want,’ while ex-United midfielder Paul Scholes backed his former rival by adding: ‘You don’t get credit because you haven’t got a very good team.’

‘You mentioned United at the top of the show, but you didn’t mention Arsenal, what makes United a big team and Arsenal not?,’ Monique said.

Carragher added: ‘Manchester United will always be a bigger club than Arsenal, and they’re a better team right now.’

Notorious Arsenal fan Ty then chipped in on the conversation to disagree with Carragher’s bold statement, before the 43-year-old replied: ‘Don’t be so soft! even if Arsenal win the league, Manchester United are a bigger club.’
