Manchester United boss, Erik ten Hag, has explained why he benched Jadon Sancho in his side’s Premier League starting XI against Leeds United on Wednesday night.

Ten Hag also gave reasons why he did not include the likes of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Antony and Anthony Martial in Man United’s squad against Leeds at Old Trafford.

Speaking to Sky Sports before Man United’s tie with Leeds, Ten Hag said when asked why he benched Sancho and started Garnacho: “Not in this game,” he replied.

“Jadon also, over the weekend, was a little bit ill. But he is in a good mood, a good run. He is developing after his setback during the winter period. So, he will come, we are happy he is back in the squad. Last week, he made his return. So, we will have to see.”

Commenting on Wan-Bissaka’s absence, he simply said, ‘illness.’

On Antony’s absence, the Dutchman added, “It is in his leg, but I can’t specify as we don’t understand that. I don’t think it is a long time, but we have to see how it develops in the coming days,” while Martial is out with a hip problem.
