The defender has tumbled down the pecking order at Old Trafford, having been first choice alongside Lisandro Martinez following Erik ten Hag’s appointment.
But a disastrous performance in a 4-0 defeat to Brentford in the second game of last season saw Raphael Varane introduced to the side, and the Frenchman has formed a good partnership with Martinez.
Maguire is not even considered first choice between that pair, with Victor Lindelof and left-back Luke Shaw ahead of the United captain in the standings.
United are therefore open to offers for Maguire, particularly as they’re walking a financial tightrope this summer.
Ten Hag has just £120m to spend, and £100m of that is set to be spent on Mason Mount and Andre Onana.
The Manchester Evening News says, however, that United are not actively looking to sell Maguire and that it would take a fee of £50m for the Red Devils to sell.
That’s an ambitious asking price considering Maguire’s stock has fallen since his £80m move to the Theatre of Dreams from Leicester in 2019.
West Ham and Tottenham have both shown interest in Maguire but would not be willing to meet United’s asking price.
In any case, Maguire’s £200,000-a-week wages are another significant stumbling block for interested parties.
United’s qualification for the Champions League means the squad’s 20% paycut has been reversed, meaning Maguire’s wages have returned to around £200,000-a-week from around £165,000-a-week last season.
