Manchester United’s players are reportedly becoming increasingly dubious about some of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s decisions, particularly his treatment of Jesse Lingard.

The Red Devils have endured a difficult start to the new season with their form taking a nose-dive in recent weeks, only managing to pick up four points from a possible 18 in their last six Premier League matches.

That has included humiliating back-to-back home defeats against Liverpool and Manchester City which has left the side nine points adrift of league leaders Chelsea.

Solskjaer faces another crunch run of games after the international break, with away games against Villarreal and Chelsea before a resurgent Arsenal visit Old Trafford at the start of December.

There will be added emphasis on the Norwegian making some changes for those matches, with many of his usual starters having been busy playing for their nations.

But the likes of Jesse Lingard and Donny van de Beek were not called up due to their lack of game time for United and, after being given last week off, will have a full week of training under their belts before facing Watford on Saturday.

Previously Solskjaer has rushed Fred back into the starting XI after international breaks, but there is a growing feeling among the squad that it is time to put his trust in United’s fringe players.

According to The Telegraph, Lingard’s continued omission from the team is ‘a source of bemusement’ among his teammates, who clearly feel he is deserving of a bigger role in the team.

The 28-year-old thrived on loan at West Ham last season but is yet to start a Premier League match this season for United and is unlikely to sign a new contract given his lack of game time, with his current deal expiring in the summer.

Similarly, Van de Beek has played just 15 minutes in the Premier League this season and both players feel they have been misled over how much game time they would receive.

The pair continue to train diligently and professionally but are expected to push for moves – either permanently or on loan – in January, though their teammates feel Solskjaer could be getting far more out of them.

The likes of Dean Henderson, Eric Bailly, Alex Telles, Diogo Dalot, Juan Mata and Anthony Martial were all expecting more game time too, with Solskjaer facing increasing pressure to change up his team given how much his favoured starting XI have struggled recently.
