Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes has put together a fantasy five-a-side team, solely of players from his homeland who have played in the Premier League,

The Portuguese superstar has made a wonderful impact since arriving at Old Trafford from Sporting in January, playing a big part in firing his team up to third in the table and a return to the Champions League for next season.

The Red Devils are still in the Europa League so Fernandes will still be hopeful of finishing his first season in England with a trophy.

Before that tournament restarts next week, the 25-year-old has turned his attention to picking five Portuguese players who have graced the Premier League to make up a dream team.

There have been plenty of players from Portugal over the years and the likes of Bernardo Silva, Joao Cancelo, Maniche and Jose Bosingwa have all missed out, but looking at Bruno’s team, you can hardly argue.

‘We have such good players in the Premier League,’ Fernandes told Premier League productions. ‘So first I put (Rui) Patricio in goal.

‘Ricardo Carvalho in defence, one of the best defenders we have in Portugal, of all time you know.

‘(Joao) Moutinho to build up a little bit because I think he’s one of the smartest players we have, and after I would put Deco.

‘For Portugal, he’s side by side with Rui Costa as the best number ten player we’ve had in the past, so I will put Deco in for sure.

‘In front, I don’t need to know. Cristiano [Ronaldo] of course.’

Fernandes may well end up in that dream team in the near future if he keeps up the fabulous form he has shown for United thus far.

Eight goals in his first 14 Premier League games is exactly the kind of return United were hoping for when they forked out up to £67.6m on his services in January.

The Red Devils face the second leg of their last 16 tie with LASK on Wednesday, having won the first leg 5-0 in Austria.
