Manchester United are optimistic over signing midfielder Manuel Ugarte and believes an agreement with Paris Saint-Germain is very close.
With Erik ten Hag extending his deal at Old Trafford and Dan Ashworth now in place as the club’s sporting director, United are stepping up their transfer business ahead of the new season.
The club are in talks with Bayern Munich over a deal for Matthijs de Ligt and have made an improved offer for Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite as they seek to make major improvements in defence.
Midfield is also an area United will seek to strengthen with Casemiro among the clutch of players who could leave Old Trafford in the coming weeks.
While Benfica star Joao Neves is also under consideration, United are interested in signing Ugarte from PSG with reports in France claiming they are edging closer to getting a deal across the line.
LeSport10 report United’s efforts to sign the Uruguay international are now at an advanced stage, ready to pay a fee of €45million (£38m) plus add-ons.
Manchester City and Barcelona are also interested in signing the 23-year-old but United are very hopeful of getting the deal done.
The final decision will rest with PSG boss Luis Enrique, who has the option to veto incoming and outgoing transfer business in the French capital.
Ugarte only joined PSG last summer in a deal worth £51million from Sporting Lisbon after the player turned down a move to Chelsea.
In addition to deals for Ugarte, Branthwaite and de Ligt, United are also closing in on Bologna star Joshua Zirkzee.
Terms with the Netherlands international and his agents have been agreed with United to decide whether to trigger his £33m release clause. A higher fee could enable United to pay for Zirkzee in instalments.
United hope to raise further funds this summer through a number of player sales.
Marseille are in advanced talks to sign Mason Greenwood with Juventus believed to be interested in signing Jadon Sancho.
