Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood has indicated that he will not extend his stay at Getafe.

The 22-year-old played his final game for the Spanish club on Sunday as the they were beaten by Mallorca in their last match of the La Liga season, making it five defeats in a row.

Greenwood joined Getafe on loan in the final hour of last summer’s transfer window after United decided that the the forward should restart his career away from Old Trafford.

Greenwood has not played for United since his arrest in January 2022 for attempted rape, controlling behaviour and assault.

All charges against Greenwood were dropped last February and United had considered reintegrating him back into Erik ten Hag’s squad before the club received backlash over his return.

United will now use this summer to make a new decision over Greenwood’s future.

Getafe had made it clear that they were open to keeping Greenwood on loan for another season, but the 22-year-old appears to have ruled that move out.

In a message on Instagram on Sunday evening, Greenwood wrote: ‘Incredibly grateful to the Getafe family and fans for an amazing season.

‘Thank you for making me feel welcomed and one of your own. I enjoyed every second, alongside my teammates and club.

‘A bitter sweet ending, but it was a pleasure to play for you, I wish you all the best.’

Greenwood has attracted interest from Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and Juventus ahead of the summer transfer window.

Meanwhile, reports this month have claimed that two Premier League clubs are also interested in a potential deal.
