Manchester United could look to cash-in on Casemiro to fund Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s rebuild of the squad, according to reports.

Ratcliffe is set to buy a minority stake of United soon and will take charge of the club’s sporting department, overseeing recruitment and transfer policy.

With the Red Devils enduring a difficult start to the season – losing nine of their 18 games across all competetion – the British billionaire is looking to strengthen Erik ten Hag’s squad as soon as possible.

However, having spent just under £400million over the last 18 months, the club will need to sell some players first, especially after failing to offload the likes of Jadon Sancho and Harry Maguire over the summer.

And according to talkSPORT, Casemiro is one name Ratcliffe is believed to be open to offers for so he can fulfil his ambitions.

The Brazil captain only arrived at Old Trafford from Real Madrid last year, in a deal worth £60m, and was a pivotal player for Ten Hag in his first season, key to the side finishing third in the league and reaching the final of both domestic cups.

However, the 31-year-old is enduring a nightmare campaign in 2023/24, struggling for form and fitness and is currently sidelined until the new year with a hamstring injury.

It has also been reported that Ratcliffe believes that the signing of Casemiro was a mistake given his age and cost, with the defensive midfielder also one of United’s top earners.

Despite his recent struggles, Casemiro would be without question a desirable target, given his status as one of the best and most successful players in his position, with three La Liga titles, five Champions Leagues and the Copa America to his name.

He has been linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League, where he could join former teammates Cristiano Ronaldo and Alex Telles, though it is not known how much United would want for the player whose contract expires in 2026.
