The winger swapped Ajax for Old Trafford in an £85million deal in the summer of 2022 and is the most expensive signing of Ten Hag’s reign so far.
However, he has struggled to live up to that price tag and has endured a very difficult start to the new season, failing to score or assist in his first 12 appearances in all competitions.
Ten Hag has long stood by the 23-year-old and continued to play him despite his struggles, but that stance could be about to change.
According to The Sun, the Dutch coach is willing to listen to offers for the Brazilian when the January window opens.
Ten Hag is reportedly keen to ‘refresh his attacking options’ and could also look to offload Anthony Martial and Jadon Sancho – with the latter rumoured to be attracting interest from Saudi Arabia.
With just eight goals in 55 outings since moving to Old Trafford, Antony is unlikely to command a fee anywhere close to what United paid and they would likely have to take a significant hit.
Asked about Antony’s lack of form this season, Ten Hag told reporters last week: ‘[He was] out for a couple of weeks so that broke the rhythm.
‘He had a good pre-season but had a break so now has to get himself back in good form. It’s hard work.’
In another interview, he added: ‘That is also team, first, and the team is not playing well when we don’t bring him the balls and I am also responsible for that.
‘But obviously, there was also a lot of noise and that dropped his levels. He can do better but all the players can do better.
‘Antony is also a fighter, he has the confidence, he is brave and I am confident he will bring the performance that he is the right player for us.’
Despite Ten Hag’s public backing, Antony was dropped for United’s last two matches – against Copenhagen and Luton Town – with Marcus Rashford instead preferred on the right and Alejandro Garnacho on the left.
