Lille forward Jonathan David says he intends to play in the Premier League at some point, with the 22-year-old linked with the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea.
The Canada international has been impressive throughout his young career so far, first earning a reputation at Gent, where he scored 30 goals in 60 league games before earning a switch to Lille.
He has now notched up 37 goals in 90 Ligue 1 games, including nine in 15 so far this campaign, while he has also been a hit on the international stage, scoring 22 times in 38 appearances for Canada.
It is little surprise that bigger clubs have had an eye on him and the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United have been mooted as possible destinations as they both hunt for a new forward.
Certainly neither will have a problem with selling the Premier League to David, who has made it clear that is where he would like to end up.
‘In England, when I watch the matches, everything is full each time. As a player, it motivates you even more,’ David told La Voic du Nord.
‘I don’t know, I think it’s possible, very possible. I don’t know if I can find myself anywhere other than the Premier League. It could well be the Premier League. It’s a very nice atmosphere.’
David was in Qatar with Canada for the World Cup this winter and was asked about Premier League interest in him, and although he dismissed the specifics, he did sound keen on moving to England then as well.
‘I am aware of nothing like that,’ the 22-year-old said. ‘When I am at the World Cup I am just focused on trying to enjoy the World Cup and enjoying the moment.
‘What happens after I do not know, we will have to see. The Premier League is the best league in the world and I think every player would want to play there some day.’
Lille are under no pressure to sell the forward just yet, having signed a five-year contract with the club when he joined in 2020.
