Manchester United and Chelsea have expressed interest in signing Randal Kolo Muani but Eintracht Frankfurt have set a steep asking price for the World Cup finalist.

Kolo Muani is enjoying a breakthrough season, scoring eight goals and making 10 assists in 22 games for Frankfurt before the World Cup.

The 24-year-old continued to impress in Qatar, scoring in France’s semi-final win over Morocco and then playing the majority of the final against Argentina after being subbed on in the first half.

Kolo Muani won the penalty that sparked France’s comeback from 2-0 down and also scored from the spot in the penalty shootout that Argentina ultimately won 4-2.

The forward’s form for club and country has attracted attention from a number of Premier League clubs and ESPN say Manchester United and Chelsea are both interested in securing his signature.

Erik ten Hag is keen to bolster his attacking options after Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure and has also looked into signing Joao Felix from Atletico Madrid.

Chelsea owner Todd Boehly, meanwhile, wants to sign a new forward in January after seeing the Blues slip to 10th in the Premier League.

German club Eintracht Frankfurt are not interested in selling Kolo Muani this month but realise they may be forced to agree a deal in the summer.

But, as the player is still under contract until 2027 and with no buy-out clause in place, Frankfurt will demand a fee of up to £80m for the France international.

Kolo Muani is happy to stay at Frankfurt for the rest of the season and would ideally like to stay in the Bundesliga, although the lure of the Premier League would be hard to turn down.

Despite spending more than £250m last summer, Chelsea are ready to splash more cash in January, although Blues boss Graham Potter has remained coy about their transfer plans.

Asked about Chelsea’s links to Enzo Fernandez and Mykhailo Mudryk, Potter said: ‘It’s a good question but the problem is if I answer it and I’m specific in that answer, every single player in that area will be linked with Chelsea.

‘So I have to dodge it – and I hope you can understand why I’m dodging it. I always answer that part of the question by saying that I’m the head coach and my responsibility is to the players that are here.

‘We will try in every window to improve, but January is a complicated one because it’s the middle of the season.

‘And in the meantime, we have to deal with all the noise of Chelsea getting linked with everybody and I don’t comment on any player that isn’t a Chelsea player.

‘As always, and it’s a boring answer, but my job is to help the players that are here and support the club in terms of decisions they make in terms of how to improve.’
