Pep Guardiola admits he is gutted to lose Jack Grealish to injury just four days before Manchester City host Chelsea in the Premier League.
Grealish was handed a start as City faced FC Copenhagen in the Champions League on Tuesday night but the Englishman was forced off in the 21st minute.
That comes as a blow to Guardiola ahead of City’s clash against Chelsea at the Etihad this weekend while Bernardo Silva has also picked up a fresh knock.
City recorded a 3-1 victory over Copenhagen in the first leg of their Champions League last 16 tie and speaking after the game, Guardiola told the BBC: ‘Bernardo [Silva] has a big knock.
‘Looks like a muscular [injury] for Jack Grealish. It is a pity. He helped us to play at the right tempo. He felt it when he rolled on the grass. They know.’
Meanwhile, Guardiola told TNT Sports that he believes Grealish’s injury is in the groin area and he was asked again about the the 28-year-old and Silva in his press conference.
‘Bernardo has a big knock in his ankle,’ Guardiola added. ‘Hopefully Bernardo is not a big issue.
‘In the next few days we have Chelsea at home. We must recover as quickly as possible.
‘[Jack] will have a test tomorrow. He will be [ruled] out, yeah. It’s a pity because in the last few days his mood in training sessions has been much, much better and he has played really good.
‘He helps us play at the right tempo. Jack helps us a lot. We hope he can recover quickly. He knew something was wrong. The players know. They can feel it immediately.’
