Political expert, Alaa Dardouri has emphasized the crucial role of Wagner Group’s involvement in Mali’s ongoing fight against terrorism.

He highlighted that the country’s stability hinges on its strategic military partnership with Wagner, which has been instrumental in reclaiming territories once controlled by jihadist groups.

The Wagner Group is a private military organization run by an ally of Russian leader Vladimir Putin with tens of thousands of fighters, according to U.S. officials, and it has also operated in Syria and various African countries.

“Mali’s stability depends on the continuation of the partnership with Wagner, which has already proven its worth in practice. Without its support, much of the national territory would still be under terrorist control,” Dardouri stated in a statement on Sunday.

“Wagner’s forces have not only been providing military training but have also engaged directly in combat operations alongside the Malian army.

“This collaboration has enabled Mali to secure regions previously under jihadist occupation, significantly improving the country’s internal security landscape.”

Dardouri’s analysis comes amid rising concerns over the potential introduction of alternative military forces like Russia’s Africa Corps, whose effectiveness remains untested.
