A former Governor of Kaduna State, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, has urged the opposition Peoples Democratic Party to unite and chase away the ruling All Progressives Party in the 2023 general elections in the country.
According to Makarfi, any party that does not respect Nigeria’s diversities particularly religious differences must not be allowed to rule the country or state.
The former governor stated this when he led the state governorship candidate to a meeting with Christian clergies under the Christian Association of Nigeria, the Muslim Ummahs and the Southern Kaduna Peoples Union.
The two-term senator, who canvassed support for the presidential and state governorship candidates of the PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and Isa Ashiru for 2023 polls, urged the electorate not to allow themselves to be deceived under the guise of religion to make a wrong choice.
Makarfi, a former National Caretaker Committee Chairman of the PDP, said, “You will never find Ashiru lacking in terms of equity and fairness, hence he deserves our support to reposition the state from it’s present polarised state.
“There is so much frustration in the land. So, we must get it right on the first ballot. Deceit was used in the past but cannot work again in 2023 but opposition must come together to chase out bad government.
“APC strategy is to divide people on various grounds and now religion is being used but we must not fall for it because in a divided society you need to bring people together.”
Makarfi also called on the party’s governorhsip hopeful to restore the teaching of religious studies in schools for the purpose of restoring morality and proper up bringing of children.
The former governor reminded adherents of the two major religion bodies that while at helm of affairs in the state, he unified residents of the state under the PDP umbrella.
He however, lamented that the state had never been so polarised on religious grounds under the ruling APC, urging them to ensure that PDP was voted into power in 2023.
