The Etsu Nupe, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, alongside other traditional and religious leaders, as well as farmers in Bida Emirate, on Thursday gathered to seek divine intervention for abundant rainfall and bumper harvest.
They trooped to the Eid prayer ground in Esso, Bida, to pray to God Almighty to shower abundant rainfall and bumper harvest in the emirate, Niger State and the nation as a whole.
The residents in their thousands resorted to offer special prayers following the cessation of rainfall, which has led to concerns over possible drought and poor harvests.
The Etsu Nupe, speaking after the special prayers, said they decided to seek for forgiveness and mercy of Almighty Allah.
“Islam teaches Muslims to repent and seek God’s mercy in the event of any calamity that befalls the society.
“We seek for Allah’s mercy and guidance and we hope this prayer will be answered by Allah (SWT) and will grant us not only rain but bless our crops and other things that we need to survive,” he said.
The monarch called on his subjects to shun immorality and return to God in true repentance, and also refrain from all acts prohibited by the Islamic religion.
The Chief Imam of Bida Emirate, Sheikh Adamu Liman-Yakatun in his sermon gave reasons responsible for drought and other calamities that befall communities, which include failure of the people to redeem pledges, killing of innocent citizens, shoddy dealings by some marketers and service providers.
Liman-Yakatun then prayed for sufficient rain for farmers to ensure bumper harvest and end to the hardship being witnessed by Nigerians across the country.
He urged residents of the state to fear God in their daily activities, while also admonishing leaders to treat their subjects with sincerity and provide the needed humanitarian assistance to them.
