Louis Saha has urged Manchester United to sign France international Marcus Thuram this summer to solve their issues up front.
United will make signing a new centre forward a priority this summer with Harry Kane, Victor Osimhen and Goncalo Ramos the options under consideration.
Each of those will demand a huge transfer fee and amid reports United are not planning a big-spending summer even under a new ownership, Thuram could represent a low-cost option.
The 25-year-old is in the final six months of his current contract at Borussia Monchengladbach and will leave the German side at the end of the season.
Saha, who won two Premier League titles and the Champions League with United, believes his fellow Frenchman is a ‘guarantee’ of goals and assists and has backed the striker to thrive at Old Trafford.
‘Marcus Thuram is a terrific lad and a terrific player. Lots of energy, confidence, doesn’t think twice,’ Saha told Lord Ping.
‘He’s a dedicated player and the type of player that gives you guarantees with goals and assists.
‘It’s not just because he’s a French lad, I really like the mentality of the player and he had a little issue last year but bounced back brilliantly to get into the World Cup.
‘I don’t follow German football that much but I follow how he’s doing and I think these type of players provide more guarantees than others.
‘This guy is skilful and aware tactically, he’d be a great player for United.’
Chelsea explored a move for Thuram in January after impressing for France in the World Cup and while a move did not materialise, Monchengladbach have confirmed the striker will leave on a free transfer at the end of the season.
Gladbach’s sporting director Roland Virkus told Sport1: ‘We’ve decided to allow Thuram to leave. The fact he will leave on a free is not a positive situation. I can’t sugarcoat it. We have to accept that there are bigger clubs he might move to.’
Thuram has scored 14 goals in 22 appearances this season, 11 of those coming in the Bundesliga.
