With France labouring in Sunday’s World Cup final against Argentina, Didier Deschamps made two early changes before half-time, bringing on Thuram and Muani to replace Olivier Giroud and Ousmane Dembele.
The duo gave the defending champions a much-needed boost as France fought their way back into a thrilling 3-3 draw, only to suffer a heart-breaking 4-2 defeat on penalties that saw La Albiceleste win their first world title since 1986.
Both forwards have been in fine goal-scoring form in Germany this season with Thuram scoring 13 in 17 appearances for Borussia Monchengladbach with Muani hitting eight in 22 for Eintracht Frankfurt.
Thuram has entered the final six months of his contract at Gladbach with reports in Germany claiming he is on United’s radar, available for as little as €12million next month.
With United still in a rebuilding phase, Saha suggests players like Thuram and Muani need to be ‘cautious’ should they be targeted by the club.
But the former France international hopes they can see the project Erik ten Hag is building at Old Trafford and have faith in the work being done behind the scenes and on the pitch.
‘Marcus Thuram and Randal Kolo Muani made a brilliant contribution to the game [against Argentina] in very difficult circumstances,’ Saha told Paddy Power.
‘They maintained their composure in crucial moments, and they are great players.
‘At this moment in time, young players moving to Manchester United need to be cautious because we have seen some really good players struggle at United. I’m not saying they shouldn’t join because of that, but it’s a difficult time.
‘It’s not enough to just be a good player or in good form. It’s all about how they can adapt, and the situation is not totally clear at the moment, so I don’t want to throw any names around.
‘They [Thuram and Kolo Muani] are very good prospects and I hope they can see that Manchester United are growing, and Erik ten Hag is the right manager.’
Ten Hag has already confirmed he wants to bring in a new striker to replace Cristiano Ronaldo, with the club thought to be preparing a January bid for PSV Eindhoven star Cody Gakpo.
