Louis Saha believes once Manchester United’s forwards stop ‘over-thinking’ the likes of Anthony Martial can help take them on a good run of results and get back to winning ways.

The Red Devils booked their spot in the knockout stages of the Champions League on Tuesday night with a 2-0 win over Villarreal in what was their first match since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s sacking last week.

Cristiano Ronaldo led the line with Jadon Sancho and Martial on either wing as caretaker boss Michael Carrick handed a rare start to Donny van de Beek.

The likes of Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes were on the bench while Edinson Cavani and Mason Greenwood remain sidelined through injury, meaning Carrick and the potential incoming interim coach, has a wealth of attacking talent at his disposal.

Saha, who won two Premier League titles with United, is backing the likes of Martial and his team-mates to turn the club’s fortunes around and get them climbing back up the Premier League table from their current eighth position.

‘Because the Premier League is a marathon, I still believe they can pick up form and go on a run,’ Saha told Metro.co.uk on behalf of 101greatgoals.com.

‘And when they do, they will be unstoppable because those front 4 players are one of the best in the Premier League. Of course, they will need to defend and ensure there’s the right balance.

‘But when they eventually find the right formula and things click – especially in their heads where at the minute there’s too much over thinking – those players are unstoppable when they play naturally.

‘On their game, no-one can touch that front four or five. Martial, when he’s on top form, he is unplayable.

‘Putting them all in the right position and conditions and they’ll fly. But it comes back to humility and mindset.

‘I’m sure they’re confident guys but they need to have the mindset of doing the things they don’t like to work hard for the team.’

United are next back in action against Chelsea on Sunday.
