Liverpool trio Mohamed Salah, Dominik Szoboszlai and Darwin Nunez will face late fitness tests before Sunday’s Carabao Cup final against Chelsea.

Injury problems have hampered the Reds in the build-up to Sunday’s showpiece event at Wembley.

Earlier in the week, Jurgen Klopp confirmed that both Diogo Jota and Curtis Jones would miss the game after suffering injuries against Brentford in the Premier League.

They join Trent-Alexander Arnold and Alisson on the treatment table after the pair sustained injuries prior to the game.

Salah and Nunez both missed the midweek clash against Luton after picking up niggles against Brentford but assistant manager Pep Lijnders confirmed that the duo, alongside Szoboszlai, could still feature in the final on Sunday.

‘Dom, Darwin and Mo we have to really see,’ the Dutchman said, speaking at his pre-match press conference.

‘We have two more days and we will check if they are there. It would be great if they can be, to be honest.’

Szoboszlai has not featured since Liverpool’s 4-1 win against Chelsea in the Premier League at the end of January.

Lijnders confirmed that Alexander-Arnold and Jota will not return until after the international break in March, while Alisson and Jones could come back into the fold prior.

With such a depleted first-team squad, Liverpool have had to draw on their academy for cover and the Dutchman was pleased with how the youngsters had managed the step up.

‘We have a few injuries so we get young players, players who didn’t play five in a row but they can show up and that is really cool,’ the 41-year-old added.

‘This season is a season we already created new teams, it’s a compliment to our squad and our academy.’
