Mohamed Salah is set to sign a new two-year contract with Liverpool, according to reports.
The 32-year-old has been in sublime form for Arne Slot’s side this season, scoring 15 goals and registering 12 assists in all competitions so far.
However, Salah is yet to agree a new deal with the club, meaning that he could walk away from Anfield as a free agent at the end of the season.
Salah has already dropped multiple hints that this could be his final season at Liverpool, the latest of which came after his side’s 2-0 victory over Manchester City at Anfield last Sunday.
‘Honestly, it’s in my head,’ Salah said. ‘Until now, this is the last City game I will play for Liverpool so I was just going to enjoy it.
‘The atmosphere was incredible so I will enjoy every second here. Hopefully we just win the league and will see what will happen.’
But the Sunday Mirror is now reporting that Liverpool have reached an agreement with Salah over a new two-year deal.
The report claims that a compromise has been met as Liverpool were only willing to offer a one-year extension, while Salah was holding out for a three-year deal.
Speaking earlier this week, former Arsenal and England midfielder Paul Merson issued a warning to Liverpool over offering a lengthy deal to Salah.
‘We’re only hearing it on the grapevine, but we’re hearing two years with a year option to Mo Salah. That’s a long time,’ Merson told Sky Sports.
‘I’d give him 300-400 grand a week now. Of course I would today, because he’s doing the business.
‘I’m his biggest fan. I think he’s world-class. I’ll say he gets in every team in the world. He’s a winger and he’s top scorer in the Premier League. It’s just absolutely amazing the numbers he puts up week in, week out, year in, year out.
‘But in two-and-a-half years’ time, that’s a lot of money to be giving someone if they’re not doing the business then.’
