Alisson and Diogo Jota will both miss Liverpool’s Community Shield clash against Manchester City on Saturday, Jurgen Klopp has confirmed.

The FA Cup winners and Premier League champions do battle at the King Power Stadium for the first piece of silverware on offer in the 2022/23 season.

Alisson is out with an abdominal problem which has seen him miss the majority of the Reds’ pre-season matches.

Meanwhile, Jota has been sidelined since he aggravated a hamstring injury picked up at the end of last season.

Liverpool’s No.1 goalkeeper, however, will be back for their Premier League season opener against Fulham next weekend, but Jota’s recovery will ‘take a while’.

‘Ali trained today, more than the day before so he will definitely be available for Fulham but not for the weekend.

‘And the same for Diogo, he was not here with us, how could he play a football game, it will take a while, unfortunately.’

Liverpool go into the new campaign without a previously integral member of Klopp’s side – Sadio Mane.

The winger left Anfield to join Bayern Munich after playing a huge role in the success of the side over recent seasons.

‘We lost Sadio who was a fixed member of the lineup for 6 years, he told us he wanted a new challenge,’ Klopp added.

‘He told us early enough and we accepted it. We had time to prepare that and that’s what we did.’

Liverpool have, however, tied down Mohamed Salah to a new contract which sees him extend his stay at the club until 2025.

The Reds also broke their transfer record to sign Darwin Nunez in a deal which could reach a fee of £85m.
