Liverpool star Darwin Nunez has pulled out of the Uruguay squad for their upcoming international fixtures over ‘physical issues’.
Nunez played the full 120 minutes in the 4-3 FA Cup defeat to Manchester United on Sunday, producing two assists as the Reds crashed out in the quarter-finals.
The 24-year-old faced criticism from Ian Wright after the match, who called out Nunez for his poor defending over Marcus Rashford’s goal in extra-time.
Nunez has been an important player for Jurgen Klopp this term, though, conjuring up 17 goals and 14 assists across 42 games in all competitions.
He had been due to link up with Uruguay for their matches against the Basque Country and the Ivory Coast on March 23 and March 26 respectively.
But ‘physical issues’ have forced him to withdraw and according to reports, Nunez will now remain in Liverpool to focus on his recovery.
Nunez’s injury is not believed to be serious but the player has suffered ‘problems’ in the last week.
Liverpool are not back in action until March 31 due to the international break and their next top-flight match sees them take on Brighton at Anfield.
Klopp’s side current sit second in the Premier League table, level on points with leaders Arsenal, while third-placed Manchester City are just one point behind.
All three clubs have just 10 top-flight fixtures remaining with the title race set to go all the way.
