Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has fired a fresh warning to Arsenal and Manchester City after his side beat Fulham 3-1 on Sunday.

Trent Alexander-Arnold opened the scoring at Craven Cottage to hand Liverpool the lead but the home side dramatically equalised through Timothy Castagne.

The Reds avoided a slip-up, though, thanks to second-half goals from Ryan Gravenberch and Diogo Jota to keep the pressure on their Premier League rivals.

Klopp suggested that his side were more or less out of the title race after losing at home to Crystal Palace but he now feels Liverpool are right back in the mix again.

‘We want to stay in that race, that’s clear,’ Klopp told the BBC. ‘Arsenal won yesterday, Manchester City will win their game in hand, so we have to win games and that’s what we’ll try [to do].’

Liverpool’s win means they are level with Arsenal on 74 points with just five top-flight fixtures remaining while City are third on 73 points with a game in hand.

‘For 80 minutes we played a really good game,’ Klopp added when speaking more generally about Liverpool’s win over Fulham in west London.

What did Klopp say after the loss to Palace?

Jurgen Klopp suggested Liverpool were more or less out of the title race last week.

Asked what Liverpool’s 1-0 loss to Crystal Palace meant for the title race, Klopp said: ‘The answer is pretty easy. If we play like that in the first half, why should we win the league?’

‘I didn’t like the last 10 minutes of the first half and they got the goal. But that’s alright because I loved the second half.

‘We could show again what we did really well in the first half – we kept the ball, created, and scored some good goals. We had some good chances on top of that too. We made some changes and the boys did really well.

‘Fulham usually cause us more problems so it was a good performance at the right moment.’

Quizzed about his decision to make six changes to the XI, with Mohamed Salah named on the bench, Klopp added: ‘I said before the game that I hate thinking about the game after the game [we play next], but that’s how it is.

‘We play in another three days so let’s see who lines up there.’
