The Taraba State Independent Electoral Commission, TSIEC, has commenced the distribution of electoral materials to be used for local council elections slated for Saturday, November 18.
The distribution is being supervised by the Chairman of the Commission, Dr Philip Duwe.
Representatives of the six political parties participating in the election were on ground to monitor the distribution of the materials across the 16 local government councils of the state.
Speaking on the level of preparations, the TSIEC chairman said all relevant security measures have been put in place in order to ensure a hitch-free exercise.
Logistics that will ensure the success of the exercise, according to him, have been made available by the Commission.
Only six out, of the 19 registered political parties, will participate in the election.
The parties are the Action Alliance, AA, All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, All Progressives Congress, APC, New Nigerian Peoples Party, NNPP, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and the Social Democratic Party, SDP.
Duwe reiterated the Commission’s readiness to provide a level playing field for all the participating political parties and their flag bearers who are jostling for chairmanship and councillorship positions.
The commissioner, who noted that the Commission is ready to conduct a free, fair and credible election on Saturday, called for cooperation and support from stakeholders across the state.
Some representatives of the various political parties who spoke on the ongoing distribution exercise, described the exercise as fair and transparent.
They urged the Commission to replicate the same during the election.
