The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Osun State has enjoined members to be peaceful and set the right standards.

The call was made by the Osun PDP chairman, Sunday Bisi in a personally signed statement obtained by Newspot on Friday.

The call follows the readiness of the state PDP to conduct a primary election for candidates vying for elective councillor positions at the local government level on Saturday, August 17, 2024.

The primary election will be held across the 332 wards across the state.

Also, the chairmanship primary election of the party will be held on Monday, August 19, 2024, in all the 30 local government headquarters in the state.

Newspot recalls that the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission, OSSIEC, has set Saturday, February 22, 2025, for local government elections in the state.

The primary is being held to determine chairmanship and councilorship candidates in the constitutionally recognised 30 local government council areas across the state.

Bisi, who urged aspirants and their supporters to cooperate with the electoral officers and the security operatives who are scheduled to oversee the primaries, warned that the State Working Committee of the party will not treat any act of violence during or after the exercise with kid gloves.

The statement reads, “I urge supporters of all prospective candidates of our party to avail themselves with the dictates of the law and guidelines of our party in their conduct in the primaries tomorrow and Monday. There is no room for violence of any form in a family like that of the PDP and especially a constitutional exercise of this nature.

“The leadership of the party has put necessary measures in place to ensure a smooth exercise tomorrow, in line with the directive of our leader, His Excellency, Asiwaju Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke at the last stakeholders meeting.

“We are confident that this exercise will produce the best candidates and ensure victory for our great party in the coming local government election in the state.

“As a disciplined party operating on the threshold of the rule of law, aspirants found wanting in the guidelines of the party, electoral act and the constitution of the country in conducting party primaries, especially on issues bordering on improper conduct, such aspirants stand disqualified by the law, without whose ox is gored,” the statement concluded.
