Leeds United have been linked with huge moves for Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Edinson Cavani, and while owner Andrea Radrizzani has – almost entirely – ruled out one signing, he has teased the prospect of the other.

The Yorkshire club have secured a return to the Premier League, ending a 16-year wait to do so, and fans are getting very excited about the prospect of big signings.

Radrizzani is happy to stir up that excitement by openly talking about the possibility of signing Ibrahimovic and Cavani.

The Swede is leaving AC Milan in August, while Cavani is a free agent after leaving Paris Saint-Germain at the end of the Ligue 1 season.

The Italian owner says that he made a move for Ibra in January, which was unsurprisingly unsuccessful in the Championship, and he doesn’t fancy his chances of signing him this summer, but he does see Cavani as a realistic target.

‘Ibrahimovic will certainly be difficult,’ the owner told Sky Sport Italia. ‘We tried to sign him in January, but he chose to join Milan and the deal vanished.

‘Now I think it’s too late, the intensity of English football is different.

‘In addition to his quality, Cavani could contribute with his physicality and adapt here, but I’ve never talked about him with the coach [Marcelo Bielsa]..

‘Having said that, we’ve certainly thought about him and we’ll see, given he’s still available on a free transfer.’

Not as big names, but possibly more sensible signings, would be Celtic’s Odsonne Edouard or Fulham’s Aleksandr Mitrovic, who former Leeds goalkeeper Paul Robinson has suggested they move for.

‘I really like the boy Edouard at Celtic, I think he’d be an absolutely perfect fit for the way Bielsa plays,’ Robinson told bookmakers.co.uk.

‘Or if Fulham don’t go up someone like Mitrovic, someone of that ilk who is used to playing up top on their own who works hard off the ball but can also score goals.

‘The chances will come. When you look back over the course of the last two seasons, Leeds have created so many chances but have dropped a lot points because they haven’t always been able to convert the chances into goals.’
