England’s interim manager Lee Carsley has named uncapped Liverpool star Curtis Jones as one of the best players he has ever worked with.

Jones has been called up to the England squad for clashes against Greece and the Republic of Ireland on November 14 and November 17 respectively.

The 23-year-old midfielder is hoping to earn his first cap for the Three Lions and has been hailed by Carsley ahead of England’s next two international fixtures.

‘Curtis is an all-round player,’ Carsley said, who is set to take charge of England’s first-team for the final time this month before Thomas Tuchel starts in January.

‘[He] plays in various positions. He is a player I highly rate, he’s one of the best I’ve worked with in terms of ability.

‘He is showing consistency at a high level now. He can score goals, assist and is player we’ve had a lot of success with in the past.’

Jones has impressed under new Liverpool head coach Arne Slot and provided a goal and assist in the 2-1 win over Chelsea last month.

He also registered an assist in Liverpool’s last top-flight match, a 2-1 win over Brighton, which saw them to return to the top of the Premier League table.

Slot lauded Jones this week and admits that the Englishman has taken his game to the next level this term.

‘I am still learning on a daily basis about every player, Curtis is one,’ Slot said. ‘When I first came I played him as a six.

‘That wasn’t his best game, at this moment he can play in every position as in such a good place right now. He has really made step up.’

Jones, who came through Liverpool’s academy and made his debut in 2018, has played 145 matches for the Reds to date, producing 17 goals and 18 assists.

Premier League leaders Liverpool are back in action on Saturday with a home match against Aston Villa at Anfield.
