Lawan reappoints Abubakar Sulaiman NILDS DG

The President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, has renewed the appointment of Director-General of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies, Prof Abubakar Sulaiman.

The Deputy Director of Information/Communication and Protocol, NILDS, Joke Akinsanmi, made this known in a statement issued on Friday.

The statement was titled ‘President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan Reappoints Prof. Abubakar O. Sulaiman as Director General of NILDS.’

NILDS is the academic arm of the National Assembly which offers undergraduate and post-graduate programmes in partnership with the University of Benin.

According to the statement, Sulaiman was reappointed for another four-year term by President of the Senate, who is Chairman of the Governing Council of the NILDS in consultation with the Speaker of the House of Representatives and Alternate Chairman of NILDS’ Governing Council, Femi Gbajabiamila.

The statement partly read, “The reappointment of Prof Sulaiman will take effect from May 28, 2023, and the President of the Senate has congratulated him while urging him to continue working towards achieving the core objectives of the Institute as outlined in Sections 2-3 of the Institute’s Act (as amended).”

The immediate past President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, had appointed Sulaiman as DG of NILDS in June 2019.

Sulaiman took over from Dr Adeyemi Fajingbesi, who was acting DG following the retirement of Prof Ladi Hamalai.
