Late Bishop Ajayi Crowther Leads 25 Eminent Anglicans For The Prestigious Award of Excellence for Faithfulness In The Kingdom Service

The Church of Nigeria Anglican Communion marked its 45 years of becoming a Province with a landmark event.

The celebration was synchronized with the bi- yearly Standing Committee Meeting of the Church at Ika Diocese in Delta State.

During  the opening ceremony of the meeting at The Anglican Cathedral Church of Ascension Boji- Boji Owa and shortly  after the Presidential address by the Archbishop Metropolitan and Primate of All Nigeria Most Revd Henry Ndukuba came the prestigious  Church of Nigeria Award for Excellence to Faithfulness In The Kingdom Service for 25 Eminent Church Leaders.

Leading the pack  was  the Grandfather and the first African Anglican Bishop late Samuel Ajayi Crowther born 1809 and passed on to glory in 1891.  Next was Archbishop and first Primate of the Church late  Most Rev’d Timothy Olufosoye born 1907 and passed on 1992. The  second Primate was late Most Revd Abiodun Adetiloye enthroned on 26 December 1986 at the age of 57 . He served as Primate for 13 years. Born in 1929 and joined the triumphant in 2012.. These first three posthumous award. The third Primate is Most Rev’d  Peter  Jasper Akinola became Archbishop of Province 111 and was elected Primate 2002 till 2010. The fourth Primate Most Revd  Nicholas Okoh  was  enthroned in 2010 ending his tenure in 2020.

Leading the pack of  other awardees is Most Rev’d Ephraim Adebola Ademowo  an Archbishop emeritus a retired as Bishop  of Lagos Diocese  from 2000 to 2018.

In his opening address to delegates to the  Standing Committee meeting The Archbishop Metropolitan and Primate of all Nigeria Most Revd Henry Ndukuba said the Church of Nigeria Award Committee had carefully selected the eminent Church Leaders for the award of Excellence in Faithfulness in Kingdom Service.
The Primate declared: ” We appreciate their diligence in their choices and more so, we thank God for the enduring legacy these servants of God have left in the service of God and humanity.
” We remain grateful to the Almighty God for the sacrifice of these great fathers of faith for the Church. Some of the Awards are posthumous- the memory of the Righteous shall be blessed.
