The Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority has resealed Addax Jetty located along Ozumba Mbadiwe Way, Victoria Island after the developer illegally broke the government’s seal placed around the structure.
It sealed the building due to Addax’s failure to comply with the physical planning permit laws regarding the firm’s ongoing construction works.
The General Manager, LASPPPA, Kehinde Osinaike, disclosed this during an enforcement and compliance exercise on Kusenla Way, Ikate Elegushi, Eti-Osa Local Government Area of the state.
Osinaike explained that the jetty, apart from failing to obtain the necessary planning permit before embarking on construction works, went ahead to violate some regulations by not observing adequate setbacks from the waterfront and necessary airspaces.
He also disclosed that over 20 buildings within Felicia Alapare Elegushi Street, Kusenla, and Gbangbala in Ikate Elegushi were sealed for varying physical planning contraventions during the exercise.
He said, “We have sealed over 20 buildings for various reasons bordering on either illegal development, construction without planning permits, construction without site certification or authorisation to move to site, and construction in violation of the approval issued by LASPPPA among others.
“The breaking of the government’s seal is a criminal offence that attracts sanctions, and the authorities have been doing their best to educate Lagos residents and developers on the benefits of voluntary compliance.”
Osinaike, who led the enforcement team, decried the disregard for the state’s physical planning laws, especially among developers.
He said the state government would take legal action against adamant developers who consistently break government seals and refuse general to obey physical planning laws.
According to the manager, erring developers and property owners who broke seals of earlier notices served on them were being issued follow-up notices, stressing that the government would adopt legal options after exhausting all peaceful options.
Osinaike appealed for total compliance to achieve a win-win situation for both residents and the government towards achieving a safe and livable city.
