The Lagos State Government has announced its plan to divert traffic on the Third Mainland Bridge on Sunday (today) to commence repairs on the peeled sections of the bridge.

The Commissioner for Transportation, Dr Frederick Oladeinde, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, adding that the exercise would last from 9am to 4pm.

He said, “In reference to the notification received for the readiness of the Lagos State Public Works Corporation to repair the identified failed/peeled asphaltic sections of the Third Mainland Bridge, the Lagos State Government has announced a traffic diversion plan for the rehabilitation process which is between 9am to 4pm tomorrow, Sunday, April 2, 2023.

“The traffic will be diverted from one lane to another lane at the identified failed asphaltic sections on the bridge and this is expedient to solve tailbacks along the bridge at the peak periods as a result of the failed sections.

“I also want to assure citizens that the state’s traffic management authority will be fully on the ground to direct traffic to ameliorate the inconveniences and we implore motorists to be patient as the measures taken are aimed at providing quality and safe road infrastructure for everyone.”

Meanwhile, in a separate statement made available to Sunday PUNCH, the commissioner warned the military, the police, and all other security agencies in the state against flouting traffic rules and regulations on the roads and highways, saying it would henceforth report to the right formation, any erring officer who was found to contravene them.
