The Lagos State Government says it is making efforts to minimise the incidence of Point of Sale-related frauds in the state.
It said the Lag ID Card to be issued by the state’s Residents Registration Agency would further help to protect Lagosians from the rising incidence of fraud perpetrated through the PoS terminals across the state.
According to a statement, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Science and Technology, Ibilola Kasunmu, disclosed this during a meeting with the National President of the Association at the Lagos State Residents Registration Agency Office, Alausa, Ikeja.
He said this was part of the discussions with the National President of the Association of Mobile Money and Bank Agents in Nigeria in Ikeja recently.
He noted that partnering with the association would help to curb the indiscriminate distribution of the PoS terminals and ensure proper capturing of the biometrics of every operator.
Kasunmu, who was represented by the Head of Registration Department at LASRRA, Abari Ajibola, noted that registration of all PoS terminal operators could not have come at a better time because of its similar objective of financial inclusion with the ‘LAG ID Card’.
He stated, “The new smart card issued to residents, which comes with a wallet, has been well secured to further increase the confidence of residents in the newly re-launched card.”
The permanent secretary explained that the smart card initiative was aimed at achieving the agency’s set goals and objectives, including identifying every resident and maintaining a rich database, providing data for social and state welfare intervention, improving efficiency in accessing all state government services and driving the Smart City agenda initiative, among others.
The National President, AMMBAN, Victor Olojo, said fraud was one of the top issues facing the association.
