Lagos DSVA hails judgment sentencing cleric to 21 years in prison for attempted defilement

The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) has hailed a court judgment sentencing a cleric to 21 years imprisonment for attempted sexual assault.

The agency commended the judgment in a tweet posted on its official Twitter handle @LSdvsa on Wednesday.

It said that justice had been served after the court found the defendant guilty of the offence and was consequently sentenced.

“Justice has been served, his name will be registered in the Sexual Offenders Register as maintained by Lagos State,” it stated.

It also stated that the agency reiterated the state’s zero-tolerance stance while restating its commitment to helping survivors of sexual offences and ensuring perpetrators are held accountable for their actions.

“We remain committed to helping survivors and ensuring perpetrators are held accountable for their actions.
“Let us continue to demand justice for survivors.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the convict, an Islamic teacher, Obasanmi Waliyullah, was on Tuesday sentenced by an Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court for attempting to defile a 15-year-old pupil.

Justice Rahman Oshodi sentenced him following his guilty plea to the two amended charges of attempted sexual assault by penetration and indecent treatment of a child.

The judge convicted and sentenced Waliyullahi to 14 years imprisonment for the first count of attempting to commit sexual assault by penetration and seven years for the second count of indecent treatment of a child.
