Doctors have shut down Lagos hospitals over the death of their colleague, Dr Vwaere Diaso.

The Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), Lagos chapter, disclosed this on Wednesday in a statement signed by its chairman, Dr Benjamin Olowojebutu, and Secretary, Dr Ismail Ajibowo, demanding an immediate investigation into the death of Dr Diaso.

Newspot learnt that Dr Diaso died on Tuesday from severe injuries after an elevator reportedly crashed from the 10th floor of Lagos Island General Hospital, Odan.

The news of Daiso’s death sent a shockwave of reaction on social media, as blame was poured on the hospital’s management for negligence.

NMA described the death of Dr Diaso as heartbreaking, heart-wrenching, and quite unfortunate.

“It is very unfortunate that at a time when the country is battling with unprecedented brain drain, a young colleague that would have attended to 6,000 Nigerians was allowed to die a needless death,” the association stated.

Consequently, the professional body directed all its members in the three government hospitals on the island of Lagos to embark on strike until the investigations were completed and justice served.

The statement reads partly: “We declare a five-day statewide mourning period, that we demand an immediate, unbiased investigation into the circumstances surrounding this unfortunate incident, that all those found guilty in this matter, especially the General Manager of Lagos State Infrastructure Management Agency, Ms Adenike Adekambi, are all brought to Justice.”
