Kylian Mbappe’s lawyer has vehemently denied allegations that the Real Madrid forward was involved in a sexual assault against a woman in Sweden.

The 25-year-old spent time in Stockholm during the international break last week, while police are now investigating a suspected rape that allegedly took place on October 10 at the same hotel which Mbappe and his entourage stayed in.

Swedish police have not confirmed or denied that Mbappe or his entourage were involved in or aware of the alleged crime at the hotel during his stay.

Mbappe trained with his Real Madrid teammates on Tuesday and the player’s legal representative, Maitre Marie-Alix Canu-Bernard, insists she has not received any contact from Swedish police.

‘We are told about a complaint, about a complaint being filed but at this time we don’t even know against whom,’ Canu-Bernard told TF1 on Tuesday evening.

‘A complaint does not make the truth, a complaint does not prove anything. And I don’t even know, once again, if the complaint is aimed at him.’

Canu-Bernard was also adamant that Mbappe would be in a situation where he is left alone with an unknown woman.

‘He is never alone, he is never exposed to finding himself in a situation where there would be a risk for him,’ she said.

‘So as a result, this totally excludes the fact that there could have been reprehensible actions on his part. I can tell you that, that is an absolute certainty.’

Mbappe described the allegations as ‘fake news’ in a post on his official X account on Monday night and insinuated that his former club Paris Saint-Germain, who he is in a legal dispute with over €55 million (£45.9m) in unpaid wages, could be behind the story.

Asked for Mbappe’s reaction to the allegations, Canu-Bernard replied: ‘He is particularly calm but on the other hand, he is totally flabbergasted to see this kind of media frenzy.

‘He does not understand at all what could be reproached to him from near or far,’ she said.

‘If that were the case, obviously [he would present himself to Swedish authorities]. But once again, he was absolutely calm today. He had also gone to training because he has absolutely nothing to reproach himself for.’

The Swedish Prosecution Authority said in a statement on Tuesday: ‘In response to media reports about a suspected rape in Stockholm, the prosecutor can confirm that a criminal report has been submitted to the police.

‘According to the report, the incident took place on 10 October at a hotel in central Stockholm.’
