KWASU turns out 6374 graduates for 2023/2024, 71 in first class

Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, will turn out 6,374 graduates for the 2023/2024 academic session.

The Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Professor Shaykh Luqman-Jimoh, disclosed this at a press conference to herald the 12th Convocation ceremonies of KWASU.

He said 71 of the graduating students are in first class, with 1,828 in the second-class upper division.

According to the VC, a total of 517 postgraduate students have also been produced in the academic session.

The convocation ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, December 14, 2024, at the ultramodern performing arts building.

Professor Jimoh said Emeritus Professor Abubakar Sani Sambo, President-elect of the Nigerian Academy of Science, will deliver the 12th Convocation lecture, titled “The Optimum Utilization of Nigeria’s Energy Resources for Sustainable Growth and Development of the Nation.”

On the achievements recorded by the institution for the academic session, Professor Jimoh said 10 additional degree programs have been introduced and verified by the National Universities Commission (NUC), while the faculties have grown from nine to 11.

“There is also the upgrade of the Kwara State University Teaching Hospital to cater for the clinical needs of our MBBS program.”

He mentioned the challenges of the university to include encroachment on the institution’s land, road infrastructure, and hostel facility, among others.

The Vice-Chancellor commended Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq for supporting the institution to address the challenges confronting the school and approving the new minimum wage for the staff.
