The Kwara State House of Assembly has asked Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq to direct the state Commissioner for Works and Transport, to liaise with the Ilorin office of the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency, FERMA, to urgently fix the failed portion of Oko-Olowo on Jebba-Eiyenkorin expressway.

This was part of the resolution following a motion raised at plenary on the hardship currently being experienced by residents of Ilorin and the damage done to Ilorin township roads as a result of the diversion of heavy trucks to the town due to the deplorable condition of the Oko-Olowo axis of the expressway.

The House also urged the governor to direct the Kwara Road Maintenance Agency, (KWARMA) to put in place palliative measures of dumping hardcore on the failed portion of the Eiyekorin-Jebba highway at Oko-Olowo, in order to save state roads from further damage.

The House further requested the agency to commence the repair of the township roads damaged as a result of the diversion.

Abdulgafar Olayemi Ayinla, (Ilorin North West), who moved the motion, said the problem arose due to the neglect of Oko-Olowo failed portion of the expressway, by the concerned Federal government agency.

This he explained, resulted in the diversion of the heavy trucks plying the road to Ilorin township roads from Gerin Alimi-Mandate market-Adeta-Alfa Yahya-Oloje to link back to Oko-Olowo.

Ayinla, said the diversion, has caused a lot of damage to the aforementioned roads and is frustrating the efforts of the Kwara state government at keeping all roads in the state motorable all year round.
