Chairman of the Kwara State Geographic Information Service, Abdul Kareem Suleiman, has dismissed reports claiming that the demolition of the property of a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, Mashood Mustapha, was political vendetta against him.
He dismissed the claim while answering questions at a ministerial press briefing by the state government in Ilorin on Wednesday.
According to him, the Crystal Shop Mall, which was demolished on Sunday night, breached the road setback on Ahmadu Bello Way in Ilorin, the state capital.
Abdul Kareem disclosed that the area on which the shops were built was initially designated for a car park by the government.
He said the owner of the demolished structure applied to the state town planning authority in the previous government to build the shops.
“The town planning authority did not approve the request, but due to a lack of political will, he went ahead to erect the building.
“The issue of scoring political points does not arise,” he declared.
The demolition of the APC’s shopping mall triggered various reactions from those against the action and residents who favored the government action in the quest to actualize the renewed master plan of the state government in line with the directive from the Federal Government.
