Kogi Govt charges 31 illegal tax collectors to court

No few than 31 highway illegal tax collectors have been charged to court by the Kogi State Government.

The Executive Chairman, Kogi State Internal Revenue Service, KGIRS, Alhaji Salihu Enehe disclosed this in Lokoja at an interactive session with stakeholders on Tuesday.

Newspot gathered that the interactive session organized by the Kogi State internal revenue service with the theme ‘Continuous engagement for effective tax administration’, was aimed at providing friendly enhanced tax policies in the state.

Enehe explained that the agency had been able to put in place measures to stop the collection of taxes by non-state actors, adding that efforts are ongoing in blocking loopholes for the collection of taxes illegally.

The KGIRS chairman noted that the agency has equally moved the state’s internally generated revenue to N23.5 billion annually within the last eight years.

“The survival of the agency, is determined by stakeholders in the payment of their taxes. Tax is as old as human beings. Tax is for the benefit of all sectors of the State.

“Through improved tax administration, it has enabled effective provision of security and better social services.

“The agency has in the last eight years of operation moved from manual to digital mode of tax collection. The various achievements the State has made in revenue generation is a product of tax collection and blocking of illegal taxes.The agency is determined to ensure that an enabling environment is created for tax administration and collection in the state,” he stated.
