Kevin De Bruyne was not in the mood to talk after Belgium’s shock 1-0 loss to Slovakia at Euro 2024 on Monday.

Slovakia produced the first real upset of this summer’s Euros after Ivan Schranz took advantage of a Jeremy Doku error to score after just seven minutes in Frankfurt.

Romelu Lukaku twice found the back of the net for Belgium but both were ruled out by VAR, the first for offside and the second for a controversial handball in the build-up.

While not as highly-fancied as they once were, the Red Devils were expected to make mincemeat of perhaps the easiest group of the tournament which also consists of Romania and Ukraine, with the former beating the latter 3-0 earlier in the day.

Belgium captain De Bruyne was naturally fuming post-match as he gave his assessment of the game.

But after fielding several questions, the Manchester City attacking midfielder decided he had enough and ended the interviews early and in somewhat bizarre fashion.

In the mixed zone, the 32-year-old was asked and answered a few questions in his native tongue and French before one reporter said: ‘Kevin, one today in English please…’

But before he could continue, De Bruyne with a look of confusion and disgust, turned around and walked away from the journalists, seemingly in no mood to speak to the English media.

Before storming out, he had said of the match: ‘It’s a shame.

‘We played well for the first 20 minutes and then we made a mistake that was punished. Then it took us a while to get back into the game.

‘In the second half we improved. We would have deserved to win, we arrived, there were two goals disallowed, but we couldn’t score and that’s football.’

De Bruyne and Belgium will be looking to bounce back in their next Group E game against Romania on Saturday night.
