The Katsina State Pilgrims’ Welfare Board on Friday commenced the collection of Hajj fare deposits from intending pilgrims for the 2023 Hajj exercise.

The Executive Director of the Board, Alhaji Suleiman Kuki, confirmed the development through a statement by the board’s spokesman, Badaru Karofi.

Kuki said the commencement of the collection of Hajj fare followed the approval given by Governor Aminu Masari for the board to begin the 2023 Hajj preparations, registration, and collection of deposits throughout the state.

He explained that intending pilgrims were expected to pay N1.5m as a minimum deposit at the point of registration, and pay another N1m to make it N2.5m as a deposit by the end of January.

According to Kuki, all payments were to be made through a certified bank draft payable to the Katsina State Pilgrims’ Welfare Board.

He emphasised that the registration exercise would be based strictly on a first-come, first-served basis and would be conducted at the seven zonal offices of the board in Katsina, Funtua, Malumfashi, Dutsinma, Kankia, Daura, and Mani.

The executive director explained that the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria had directed the board to begin the registration of intending pilgrims for the 2023 Hajj pending issuance of guidelines and allocations to states.

Kuki urged intending pilgrims to contact officially designated zonal pilgrims officers from the board for any transaction to avoid illicit activities.
